RAPID RESPONSE GRANTS

Women and non-binary[1] human rights defenders face big risks to achieve social, economic and political change. Often, they put their own lives on the line. We are there to build their resilience and offer critical support when it is most needed.

Our Grants

UAF A&P offers funding to women and non-binary[1] activists, their families and their organisations in times of crisis. We offer two kinds of grants. A security and well-being grant is for those who need urgent funding to ensure safety from physical or emotional harm. A resourcing resilience grant is for those who seek to prepare for threats, and those who need to respond to a critical issue or opportunity in the next 3-6 months. We request your patience during the UAF A&P application review process. Please expect acknowledgment of your application within 48-72 hours. We encourage you to keep checking your ProtonMail inbox and/or your application dashboard in your UAF A&P account for all updates and communications. Once an application is approved and necessary documents have been signed, please expect to receive your grant within 10-15 working days.

TYPES OF GRANTS

Security and well-being grants

This grant is available to women and non-binary[1] human rights defenders and organisations in Asia and the Pacific who have immediate or time-urgent needs related to their safety or well-being. It is intended for a person or organisation experiencing a threat or in case of emergency, crisis or risk due to their defence of women’s rights and human rights. It is also available for time-urgent needs for well-being such as psycho-social counselling, treatment for trauma, or medical assistance.

Resourcing resilience grants

This grant is available to women and non-binary[1] human rights defenders and organisations in Asia and the Pacific who – on their own or in collaboration with others – seek to implement an initiative or respond to an unanticipated opportunity that would contribute to the resilience of women’s human rights and human rights activism and movements.

Webs of safety and care grants

Individuals, groups or organisations that are actively involved in the UAF A&P’s Enabling Defenders programme focused on strengthening webs of safety and care for women and non-binary defenders and activists are eligible for this grant. The Webs of Safety and Care grant is on invitation basis only.

SPECIAL GRANTS

From time to time, we expand our grant making to respond to urgent needs or crises. Information about these types of grants can be found on our special grants page.
